¹⁸ But Balaam answered them, “Even if Balak gave me all the silver and gold in his palace, I could not do anything great or small to go beyond the command of the Lord my God.^(A)

⁷ The king said to the man of God, “Come home with me for a meal, and I will give you a gift.”^(A)

⁸ But the man of God answered the king, “Even if you were to give me half your possessions,^(A) I would not go with you, nor would I eat bread^(B) or drink water here.

⁵ “By all means, go,” the king of Aram replied. “I will send a letter to the king of Israel.” So Naaman left, taking with him ten talents^[a] of silver, six thousand shekels^[b] of gold and ten sets of clothing.^(A)

¹⁶ The prophet answered, “As surely as the Lord lives, whom I serve, I will not accept a thing.” And even though Naaman urged him, he refused.^(A)
